A quartet of Del Norte High athletics will be flexing their muscles next school year at College of the Redwoods.

Four Warriors recently signed letters of intent to compete for the Corsairs. All are standouts on the Warrior track and field team.

They include:

 Melody Brennan, who was an honorable mention all-conference selection in volleyball last fall and is expected to be one of the top returning placers in both the shot put and the discus in the Humboldt-Del Norte League.

 Sebastian Espinoza, who was second in 2025 in the shot and discus in the HDN championship meet and was third in the shot put at the NCS Redwood Empire meet.

 Hollyn Wakefield, who was a runner-up in the shot put at the HDN championships, and fourth in the discus.

 Aurora Mitchell is planning to play soccer for C-R. She helped the Del Norte High girls’ soccer team to one of its best seasons ever in 2025, reaching the semifinals of the NCS playoffs. She was also in the top five in both shot and discus at the HDN championships in track.

“This group of seniors is a coach’s dream,” said Taylor Duncan, the school’s athletic director and head track and field coach. “They are extremely focused and hard working in their athletic feats, but more importantly in the classroom as well.”

All four are academic all-stars.

“They are taking multiple college courses and are involved in numerous clubs at school,” Duncan said. “They represent what it means to be a Del Norte Warrior in their influential time at the high school level as a student athlete.”

“They have tremendous futures ahead of them, and we could not be more proud of them.”
