Tough second-half defense saves a tie for Warriors
A second-half defensive effort saved a 1-1 tie with Arcata Saturday for the Del Norte High boys’ soccer team.

Adrian Garcia scored the game-tying goal in the first half, but then the Warriors had to hang on after a pair of Del Norte players were given red cards and were sent to the sidelines.

Playing short-handed, Del Norte actually kept the pressure on the Tigers in the Big Five Conference battle.

“Our boys were awesome in the second half,” said Del Norte Coach David Sanyaolu. “They showed great resilience to hold on to the tie.” He also said the red card issues would be addressed.

The Warriors are now 2-1-1 in Big Five games, 8-3-1 overall.
On Tuesday, Del Norte travels to Eureka for a 5:30 p.m. battle against St. Bernard’s High.

Warriors knock off Arcata in girls soccer
Lillie Franklin and Bella White nailed goals for Del Norte Saturday, lifting the Warriors to a 2-1 non-conference victory over Arcata.

Coach Shawn Eckart said communication defensively was a key for Del Norte, which is now 4-2-2 overall this season.

It was a needed win for Del Norte, which was coming off a disappointing Little Four Conference loss to undefeated Ferndale last week.

On Tuesday, Del Norte travels south to take on Little Four foe St. Bernard’s. Both teams are 1-1 in conference play.

Warriors tennis team just misses win over Crusaders
It was another close call for the Del Norte High girls’ tennis team Saturday, as the Warriors came up just short in a match against St. Bernard’s High in Crescent City.

The Crusaders came away with a 4-3 team victory.

Camree Ralphs and Brittany Hogan both captured singles victories, while Ralphs and Abby Kendrick teamed for a doubles victory.

Del Norte is scheduled to play Tuesday in McKinleyville.
