The community will have the opportunity to support a worthy cause while enjoying two battles for bragging rights at Del Norte High.

Staff will take on the seniors in both volleyball and basketball action Tuesday, March 17, at Charles Thunen Gymnasium. Action will begin at 6 p.m.

Money earned will support the 2026 Safe and Sober program, the annual post-graduation party designed to keep young people out of harm’s way. Tickets are $5 with raffle prizes planned.

Principal Alison Eckart has already issued a challenge to the seniors. In her daily address to students, the veteran educator informed the seniors they were “going down.”

Teacher and Athletic Director Taylor Duncan, himself a standout athlete in his day for the Warriors, said he is going to go “old school” on the youngsters. He is planning to dust off his patented hook shot -- popular in the 1950s -- which he says is unstoppable.

“These young’uns won’t know what hit them,” he reportedly said.

The seniors do not seem to be worried.

“Why would we be scared of these old people," said Kansas Coulson, who at the time was listening to Disney for Kids.

“Experience and guile will always beat youth and bad haircuts,” Eckart said, while buying a large quantity of ibuprofen and Ben Gay.

“Youth and bad haircuts will always beat stiff joints and gray hair,” said senior Bliss Blackburn.

Tickets will be available at the door.
