Del Norte High boys’ wrestling rolls past Fortuna and turns focus to NCS dual meet championships. Click for full details.

The Del Norte High boys’ wrestling team tuned up for one of its biggest events of the season Wednesday night, dispatching Fortuna 59-16 in a Humboldt-Del Norte League dual meet.

With that win out of the way, the Warriors will now focus on Saturday’s North Coast Section Division 2 Redwood Empire Dual Meet Championships. Del Norte is the two-time defending champion.

Against the Huskies, Del Norte picked up wins via pin from Lucas Lopez, Chulhs Bates, Thunder Lewis, Wyatt Sharp, Remington Escobedo, Wyatt Lewis, Blake Owen, and Robert Reyes-Villegas. Taking home major decision victories were Eddie Norris and Dane Brown. Also winning his match via decision was Davion Johnson.

Del Norte Coach Clinton Schaad expects his team to be seeded either first or second for Saturday’s NCS championships. He is concerned that a bug could impact his team’s prospects.

“If we can get over some of the illnesses going around, we have the possibility of having a good tournament,” Schaad said.

Del Norte’s girls team came up just short against Fortuna, falling 31-27, despite pins by Allie Bartley, Golden Rule, and Karlye Dodson, plus a decision victory from Aileen Carlson.
