A tradition that goes back generations returns this weekend, as the Del Norte High School Dance Department presents its Winter production -- “For The Thrill Of It” -- at Crescent Elk Middle School auditorium.

Some 80 students will perform Friday and Saturday, blending physical prowess with music and vision to create an emotional experience for the audience.

Students not only perform, but they played a crucial role in the building of the show, from selecting the music, to the moves of the dances, to the design of the costumes. All students must earn a spot via audition.

“The kids get to be very creative,” said director Katie Pena, who performed in the production as a Del Norte High student almost a
quarter-century ago. “They get to show off something they create, which is pretty special.”

The production will feature five themes – Dreams, Villains, Phobias, Colors and Michael Jackson -- with multiple performances inside each theme. Students have been working 3 ½ months, with rehearsals hitting an intense and exhausting peak over the past few weeks.

Presale tickets are available at Del Norte Office Supply (cash or check only) for $12 for adults. At the door, tickets are $15, and $7 for students and seniors. Children ages five and under are admitted free.

Both shows start at 7 p.m. Pena recommends getting there early, as both shows are often standing-room only.
