Wrestling Update 2/18/2025

The Del Norte High boys’ wrestling team posted another dominant performance this past weekend, winning its seventh consecutive Humboldt-Del Norte League championship in Arcata.

The Warriors finished with 186 team points, with Arcata a distant second at 154.5. McKinleyville finished third at 119.5. Del Norte’s performance follows last weekend’s North Coast Section Dual Meet championship.

And while the Del Norte girls’ team finished third overall, two Warrior wrestlers earned high honors.

The Warrior boys were led by Curtis Bartley, who won his weight class and was named the tournament’s top wrestler in the lower weights. It was the second year in a row Bartley has captured the honor. Colton Schaad also claimed another championship, and was selected top upper-weight wrestler.

Three other Warriors claimed an individual title – Alex Osborne, Remington Escobido, and Davion Johnson. Three Del Norte athletes took second in their weight class – Chulhs Bates, James Gensaw Jr., and Dane Brown. Capturing third place honors were Wyatt Sharp, Braydan Johnson and Yatish Patel.

The top three wrestlers in each weight class advances to the North Coast Section championships, Friday and Saturday, at James Logan High School in Union City.

On the girls side, Allie Bartley was named the top lower-weight wrestler on her way to an individual title, while Karley Dodson was the best upper-weight wrestler. Also winning her weight class was Golden Rule.
